Muhammad Siddîq al-Minshâwî (Hafs)

These are the only CD quality audio files available on the net, encoded at 128Kbps in MP3 format, of the Egyptian reciter Muhammad Siddîq al-Minshâwî. Please note these files are large in order to maintain quality, and hence may result in slow streaming for those with dial-up connections. It is recommended to download the files.

These files are from his murattal style recordings in the transmission of Hafs ‘an ‘Asim in the way of Shâtibiyyah. Of particular interest is that when there are two ways of reciting a particular word this Sheikh usually chooses the second way (listen to 10:51,59,91; 6:143,144; 27:59; 30:54)

Muhammad Siddîq al-Minshâwî [d. early 1970’s] was born in Upper Egypt and established himself as a reciter there before coming to Cairo. He is especially well-known for his live recordings in the mosques of Egypt and he is admired for the spirituality, gravity, and dignity of his style. His father was also a well-known reciter, and his brother, Shaykh Mahmûd al-Minshâwî, has now established himself as a respected professional reciter in Cairo.

There are two complete recordings of the Qur’ân available by this reciter: tarteel in the transmission of Hafs and also tarteel in the transmission of ad-Dûri ‘an Abî ‘Amr. He recorded most of the Qur’ân in his famous mujawwad style but he did not complete it before his death.
